We've reduced the cost of creating tasks, added support for high priority tasks, and removed many synchronization points. Multicore scaling is crucial to achieving high frame rates on modern PCs and consoles, so we have improved our threading architecture in several ways. Here are some of the larger optimizations we've been working on. Many of those optimizations are in 4.11, and more will be coming in future releases. Thousands of small optimizations throughout the engine have resulted in a big increase in performance for Paragon and should benefit all games built with UE4. Paragon pushes the engine to its limits, especially when it comes to animation and rendering. In Paragon, we need to support animating 10 heroes and 120+ minions at a time, tons of FX, and all while rendering a beautiful, detailed map with long sightlines at 60fps. Paragon offered a unique set of challenges to the team.

UE4 continues to push VR forward with improvements to VR rendering and support for the latest SDKs so that you can ship your games as VR hardware becomes available to consumers. Several new rendering and animation features focused on rendering realistic characters are in 4.11, as are new audio features and tools improvements. Performance has been a big focus for us as we prepare to ship our next game, Paragon. This release is packed with many new features and numerous performance optimizations. This release brings hundreds of updates for Unreal Engine 4, including 92 improvements submitted by the community of Unreal Engine developers on GitHub! Thanks to all of these contributors to Unreal Engine 4.11:Īnton Olkhovik (Sektor), Alessandro Osima (AlessandroOsima), Alexandru Pană (alexpana), Andreas Axelsson (judgeaxl), Andreas Schultes (andreasschultes), Artem (umerov1999), Artem V. New: Major Progress on Sequencer (Experimental) New: VR Head Mounted Display Camera Improvements New: Complex Text Rendering (Experimental) New: Curve Blending for Animation Montages New: Particle Cutouts (Fast Flipbook Particle Rendering) New: Animation Posing by Copying from Meshes New: Faster Lighting Builds (Intel Embree support) New: Live Animation Recording from Gameplay This gives you easy access to photos and videos, map locations, PDFs and more that you might have saved in Notes, rather than having to scroll through an entire list of old Notes to find things.New: Anim Dynamics (Fast Physics Simulation for Characters) And the new Notes has what I’ll call a “multimedia” view now rather than just a list view. These changes are useful, but so incremental that no one would judge if you asked, “Wait, they didn’t do that before?” You can now make checklists in Apple’s Notes app, or drag and drop stuff from Safari, Maps and Photos directly into a Note. OS X El Capital also brings some improvements to native apps like Notes and Mail. It’s pretty convenient, but unless you’re looking at a cluster of recognizable icons, it could get confusing the pin icon for The Verge, for example, is displayed as the plaine letter T. With OS X El Capitan, you can “pin” tabs, creating a clickable, square icon in the browser rather than a tab.

There’s also a small update to the Safari browser: OS X Yosemite brought in the ability to slide through multiple browser tabs if you have so many open that they’re not all highly visible in the same window.
